2 March 2020 Word comes to us that the big event at the Lyric in Blacksburg, VA, was a tremendous success. In addition to academics and scholars, around 120 enthusiastic fans cheered throughout as Mil Mascaras once again saved the world. Check out this
picture showing Virginia Tech professor Vinodh Venkatesh (who gave the opening presentation before the screening), El Cardo (luchador who appeared in the film), and Virginia Tech alum Craig Ferguson (who was a stuntman in MMvsAM and
Aztec Revenge).
2 February 2020 Following up on the Berlin event, MMvsAM will be returning to the Lyric in Blacksburg, VA, on March 1st. It screened there ten years ago alongside "Singin' in the Rain" and was billed as "
a classic film and a soon-to-be-classic film." That has certainly proven true, and this time around the now-classic MMvsAM will feature the digitally remastered print that premiered in Berlin last September. Virginia Tech Professor, Vinodh Venkatesh, will introduce the film. He is a scholar of classical languages and has recently authored a book on Latin American superheroes.
17 September 2019 Two announcements discuss the screening of MMvsAM at an exciting event in Berlin next month celebrating Mexican superheroes. Information for attending the event can be found in this
announcement. In a separate press release, writer-producer Jeffrey Uhlmann announced that the event would celebrate the 10th anniversary of the film's European premiere and would feature a digitally remastered print with an improved 5.1 sound mix.
1 August 2019 Today we learned the sad news that the legendary Harley Race has died. It was an honor to have his participation and support for MMvsAM. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed his presence on set and his many stories about Mil. Harley did so much for the sport that he loved and for the state of Missouri. He will be greatly missed.
March/April 2019 After being officially announced on the final night of Lucharama-2019, the films
Academy of Doom and
Aztec Revenge are released worldwide in free online form on YouTube. At a post-Lucharama press conference it was reported that
Mil Mascaras vs. the Aztec Mummy may receive a similar release sometime next year.
Requests for confirmation to Jeffrey Uhlmann's press officer went unanswered.
July 2017 - Andre Dubois of the Fantasia International Film Festival announces at a press conference that Mil Mascaras will receive a
lifetime achievement award prior to a screening of
Aztec Revenge at this year's festival. Jeffrey Uhlmann is given the honor of presenting Mil with the Fantasia Trophy at the event.
November 2016 -
MMvsAM has a
special screening at an event at the Joy Cinema in Portland, Oregon. Surprisingly, the film's original US theatrical release did not include Portland, so this was technically its Oregon premiere!
July 2015 -
Fans of MMvsAM attend the US Premiere of
Aztec Revenge at the St. Louis International Film Festival.
November 2015 -
MMvsAM screens to a rollicking crowd at
CutreCon in Madrid.
An equally-enthusiastic crowd enjoyed the world premiere of
Aztec Revenge the following
evening. After the conclusion of the festival it was reported that two
other Mil Mascaras films are in the works. Filming for one of them,
referred to only as "
LR", has reportedly begun with the shooting of Mil's
scenes.
December 2014 - It is announced that MMvsAM has been invited for a special screening at the
CutreCon International Film Festival in Madrid, Spain, on January 31st of 2015.
In a surprise joint announcement, the long-awaited
successor,
Aztec Revenge, will premiere on the following day (February 1st) at the same festival.
January 2013 - MMvsAM and AoD are featured in a
Shadowland magazine article about
the the nearly-completed quasi-sequel
Mil Mascaras: Aztec Revenge.
November 2012 - The film receives a special screening at the
Morbido Film Festival,
which also hosted an exhibition of Mil's artwork.
August/September 2012 - Our sister film,
Academy of Doom,
ends its run on the international festival circuit and finally comes
out on DVD.

Rue Morgue magazine has a short article about the completion of
Aztec Revenge and its predecessors: Mil Mascaras vs. the Aztec Mummy and Academy of Doom. This is the third magazine article in six months to include coverage and images from MMvsAM (the previous two were cover articles in Filmfax and Screem).
June 20, 2012 - Sad news as we learn that Richard Lynch has died, but we celebrate his outstanding film legacy.
February 13, 2012 - The film is nominated for a Rondo Award for best independent film for its DVD release.
January 15, 2012 - After three months on the cover of Screem Magazine, Mil and the Aztec mummy (and even IDAKTOR, the robot!) appear on the cover of FilmFax magazine. The Filmfax issue includes a great interview with Mil about his career as a wrestler, artist, and film star. Both magazines feature interviews with Jeffrey Uhlmann about Mil Mascaras vs. the Aztec Mummy and Academy of Doom.
November 9, 2011 - MMvsAM is featured on the cover of Screem Magazine (see right). Few indie films have received the level of sustained interest from fans and the media that MMvsAM has enjoyed over the past three years.
May 11, 2011 - Mil Mascaras receives a great honor in Mexico when he is formally recognized with a series of postage stamps depicting his legendary career.
January 5, 2011 - A limited edition commemorative festival cut of the film is released on DVD (get it here now!)
July 22, 2010 - The film wraps up its 2-year festival & limited-theatrical run at an emotional event at the Roxie in San Francisco.
